Trumpeter and educator, Julia Boucaut is a faculty member at the Tolima Conservatory, where she teaches trumpet, chamber music, music history, and interpretative tools. Deeply committed to pedagogy and knowledge exchange, she has worked with various educational programs in Colombia, offering classes and workshops at universities and cultural institutions across the country. She is also a professor of natural trumpet at the Academia de Música Antigua de Medellín.
Trained in France, she graduated with honors from the Bordeaux Conservatory under Pierre Dutot and specialized in historical performance with Serge Tizac. She later completed advanced studies in historical trumpet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (CNSMD), studying with Jean-François Madeuf and refining her artistry with leading musicians such as Christophe Coin and Sigiswald Kuijken. Her practice spans instruments from the 17th century to the present, combining historical awareness with expressive depth.
She has performed with renowned early music ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants (William Christie), Cappella Mediterranea (Leonardo García Alarcón), Le Concert Spirituel (Hervé Niquet), Les Siècles (François-Xavier Roth), and Musica Amable (Julien Faure), participating in concerts and recordings across Europe, Asia, and South America. She has also collaborated with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and explored modern repertoire, including Le Bal Masqué by Poulenc, directed by Jérôme Pernoo for the Centre de Musique de Chambre de Paris.
Alongside her instrumental career, she has cultivated a deep connection with the voice, performing with the CNSMD Lyon vocal ensemble and studying under Isabelle Eschenbrenner. Her research on the relationship between vocal technique and Baroque trumpet led her to specialize in breath control, resonance, and articulation. She now applies these insights as a breath coach, guiding musicians in developing an efficient and expressive technique.
