Since 2021, the Academia de Música Antigua de Medellín stands as a unique hub for the study and promotion of music through the lens of Historically Informed Performance. For three concert seasons, the AMAM’s commitment to a rounded education has offered students with access to period instruments, specialized instruction, and an innovative methodology that seamlessly integrates theory and practice in the service of musical expression. This approach enriches instrumental technique and nurtures critical thinking, fostering a deep emotional connection between musicians and their audiences.
As part of its missional activities, the AMAM stages productions that explore diverse repertories with both rigor and creativity, using replicas of period instruments and delving into techniques, concepts, and styles that reveal different meanings and ways of listening. These concerts include theatrical productions, orchestral music programs, and chamber recitals—covering a wide range of styles, from cantatas and courtly songs to classical symphonies, opera, and Latin American music.
