We are pleased to present a 2025 season full of innovative programs, consisting of a series of concerts in both large and small formats, where we combine the most commonly-known repertoires and the Latin American musical tradition:
Concert Series:
Morenita con Gracia es María; Syncretism in Marian Tradition in Hispanic America: In our first international appearance, the Quito International Sacred Music Festival hosts this program, which explores the diverse musical expressions of Marian tradition across the Americas, delving into the syncretism between European influences and indigenous traditions.
Storm and Stress; Emotional Turbulence in the Early Symphony: Dedicated to the Sturm und Drang style, this program allows us to hear three works full of drama and sensibility, featuring concertos and symphonies by Carl-Philipp-Emanuel Bach, Franz Benda, and Joseph Haydn.
L'Orfeo; Favula in Musica: The iconic work by Claudio Monteverdi, traditionally known as the first "opera," premieres in Medellín with a cast of local and international artists, in a production that includes set design, costumes, and acting.
Academic Concerts:
Witty Improvisation; three literary tableaux from the Renaissance: An experimental program that combines improvisation with Renaissance literature, exploring improvisation in music associated with three major 16th-century literary works: Don Quixote, Il Pastor Fido, and Gargantua & Pantagruel.
Naturalia; a baroque bestiary: Naturalia is a category used in baroque cabinets of curiosities to refer to collections of natural objects: minerals, dissecated animals, plants, and fossils. These cabinets represented an effort to catalog the natural world and uncover its secrets. Similarly, this program is a sonic exploration that echoes nature as represented in music.
Songs in the Codex of Friar Gregorio Zuola: A program dedicated to the pieces from one of the most important collections of colonial period music in Latin America, led by Argentine tenor and researcher Jonatan Alvarado.
