Spanish Opera by Sebastian Durón
Composed in 1701 by Sebastián Durón, The War of the Giants is a mythological opera that glorifies power and political triumph. Set against the backdrop of the War of Spanish Succession, this work was composed to celebrate the union of Philip V and María Luisa of Savoy. Using mythological theater, it exalts virtues and legitimizes the new court's authority. Allegorical figures such as Fame and Time, alongside mythic characters like Hercules and Minerva, narrate a tale of struggle and political victory through music.
