Born in Rhoon, the Netherlands, Pieter is a violinist and bow maker specializing in early music. He began his violin studies at the age of 11 and later trained at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where he developed a deep interest in the repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Following his graduation, he performed for several years with some of Europe’s leading Baroque orchestras, building an extensive career as both an orchestral and chamber musician. His artistic activity also includes numerous recordings as a soloist and ensemble player. He is a member of the Netherlands Bach Society.
In 1997, he decided to expand his musical practice by incorporating another of his great passions: woodworking. He began his training in bow making with Basil de Visser. Since then, he has developed a unique practice that integrates performance and lutherie, allowing him to evaluate his bows directly on stage and from the performer’s perspective.
Pieter’s bows can be seen on his website.
He currently resides in Parede, Portugal, where he combines his work as a musician and bow maker.
